Death of Archbishop Emeritus
Joseph Daniel Finnegan, CSFD, D.Min.

(18 May 1938 - 10 January 2023)

The family of Archbishop Emeritus Joseph D. Finnegan announced his death on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, "Joseph passed peacefully and comfortably in his sleep this morning with his black rosary in his hand."

Archbishop Finnegan was the founder of the Companions of Saints Francis and Dominic and the Catholic Church, Florida, the pastor of All Saints Catholic Community, Tallahassee, and Archbishop Emeritus of the American Old Catholic Church

From April, 2012, until his death, Joseph also served as the employer representative on the Florida Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission.  "Commissioner Finnegan had a long history of public service.  He was a retired manager with more than 42 years of experience in both the private and public sectors... In July of 2015, Commissioner Finnegan received the Commission's Mary E. Griffin/Thomas D.D. Epsky Award for recognition of his many hours of community service."

Archbishop Finnegan, also known as "Bishop Joseph" to many, was also the spiritual mentor and advisor not only for members of the clergy but also to many who have professed religious vows.  He introduced a great number of people to the Old Catholic faith and tradition.  His wisdom, his humor and his steadfast faith will be greatly missed.

May he, with all the saints and faithful departed, rest in peace.

O God, who chose your servant Bishop Joseph D. Finnegan from among your Priests and endowed him with pontifical dignity in the apostolic priesthood, grant, we pray, that he may also be admitted to their company for ever.  Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.  Amen!
